Highly Objective Uniform State Standard of Evaluation (HOUSSE)
The No Child Left Behind Legislation created new expectations for school personnel. Every teacher must be licensed in the area(s) that he/she is assigned to teach. This “highly qualified” status must be attained by 2006 unless the candidate is teaching in a Title I school. Title I schools must employ only those teachers who are currently “highly qualified.”
The Guilford County School System provides candidates with options for becoming highly qualified, including a bank of dates for participating in the HOUSSE process. GCS representatives meet with candidates and provide an overview of the assessment process, the standards, and the procedure that will be followed. Each candidate is assigned to a trained evaluator who holds a license in the same area as the candidate.
